After an "expert" claimed Britain had Muslim-only cities, the internet responded mercilessly

After last week's tragic events in Paris, the tone of public conversation this weekend was sombre, as around 3m people marched in the city yesterday to show solidarity with those killed. But thankfully there was one bit of unintentional comic relief. On ever-reliable US network Fox News, an "expert" by the name of Steven Emerson made a series of outlandish claims about Muslims in Britain, including saying we have "actual cities like Birmingham that are totally Muslim where non-Muslims just simply don't go in."

Emerson has since apologised for his mistake (only about 22 per cent of Birmingham's population is Muslim), but his error had already captured the internet's imagination. Yesterday, the hashtag #FoxNewsFacts trended worldwide as people mocked Emerson's readiness to distort the facts in the name of infotainment.
