Role overview
Prospect is seeking an experienced and highly organised Deputy Editor to join the team under a maternity cover contract. The Deputy Editor has oversight across Prospect’s print and digital journalism. They will work closely with the Editor and the wider team to shape the magazine’s editorial direction and strategy, as well as being deeply involved in the day-to-day production of Prospect’s journalism.
The successful candidate will commission and edit articles for Prospect’s monthly print magazine and for online, manage workflows and production, and ensure the highest standards are maintained in their own work and across the team. This is a fixed-term contract maternity cover role with a competitive salary.

Qualifications and skills
- Significant experience in commissioning and editing long-form and argument-driven journalism
- Plenty of ideas, and a rich contact book
- Excellent organisational and communication skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Experience managing competing timelines/deadlines
- A strong understanding of both digital and print publishing
- Knowledge of content management systems (such as Glide) and digital publishing tools (such as Adobe InCopy) are desirable

Prospect now works with charities and foundations to provide internships and fellowships to those from backgrounds underrepresented in journalism. Information about these schemes will be posted here and on our social media accounts when they are open for applications.

The magazine offers rolling two-week placements, during which successful applicants will attend meetings, contribute ideas and learn more about how a modern media organisation works. The placements are based at our Westminster offices and expenses-paid.
