Sean Doran: an apology

March 28, 2008

In o ur August 2007 issue, our "Operatic Turkeys" column included reference to the ENO production of Kismet, which we explained had received an unprecedented trashing by arts critics.

We have been asked by Mr Doran, the former Chief Executive and Artistic Director of ENO, to make clear that during his time at ENO he consistently refused to agree to the commissioning of Kismet, and the decision to stage the production was made after he had left the company. We are happy to set the record straight and we apologise to Mr Doran for any embarrassment caused by our article.
