"Scotland has shown a great sense of responsibility in voting No, although the Nationalists end up winners with more powers for Scotland. Gordon Brown saved David Cameron's bacon, and Labour's too. But the whole experience is a big wake up call to Britain's political elite. The Yes vote was as much anti politics as pro independence. Our over-centralised system of government has been challenged as never before. A fair and balanced UK settlement should meet the needs of England's regions and cities along with those of Scotland and Wales. This new settlement cannot be drawn up casually on the back of an envelope. Non-Scots have been given no voice or say so far on the UK's future and the parties need to rectify this urgently."
