It was a long time coming, but Italy’s former prime minister Silvio Belusconi was yesterday sentenced to seven years in prison for paying an underage prostitute for sex. Judges also found the flamboyant politician guilty of using his office to cover up the offence. However, the 76-year-old is unlikely to set foot in a jail cell as he is entitled to lodge two appeals. He has been banned from seeking public office again.
