Born in New York to Burmese parents, Thant Myint-U is now a member of Myanmar’s National Economic and Social Advisory Council and is one of the Myanmar President’s special advisors on the peace process. Myint-U is the Chairman of the Yangon Heritage Trust, which focuses on urban planning and conservation issues in Yangon and has also served as chief of the Policy Planning Unit in the United Nations Department of Political Affairs.
