World Thinkers 2014: Thant Myint-U

Born in New York to Burmese parents, Thant Myint-U is now a member of Myanmar’s National Economic and Social Advisory Council and is one of the Myanmar President's special advisors on the peace process. Myint-U is the Chairman of the Yangon Heritage Trust, which focuses on urban planning and conservation issues in Yangon and has also served as chief of the Policy Planning Unit in the United Nations Department of Political Affairs. His work as a historian focuses on the history of Burma/Myanmar. His most recent book is Where China Meets India: Burma and the New Crossroads of Asia (Faber, 2011).
