Police arrested three men today after briefly cordoning off roads in Blackfriars, London. A police spokesperson told The Independent that arrests were made on "suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle."

The area is now reopened. Armed police and helicopters were seen arriving at the scene.

Unconfirmed reports from the scene say that a silver BMW car was at the centre of the investigation, and that the car in question had Belgian numberplates.

The situation in Brussels

The concern of many Londoners about the incident today is perhaps partially explained by the ongoing situation in Europe. France remains in a state of emergency following the attacks which happened in paris a week and a half ago, killing 129, and police in Belgium have raised the terror threat level in the capital, Brussels, to "level four"—the country's highest level. This signifies a serious and imminent threat of an attack.
