Online this week: Letter from Israel

Three months ago, freelance journalist Joy Lo Dico was protesting outside the Israeli embassy in London over Gaza. A few days ago, she was in Israel, on a trip organised by BICOM, during the consecutive holidays of Remembrance and Independence days.

On Remembrance Day, Israelis commemorate the servicemen and women who have died for their country—and now also victims of terror. In contrast,  Independence Day is a day of joyful celebrations and street parties. Yet on both, an overwhelming sense of national solidarity is on display, one that leads Israel to look ever inwards.
