Chippendales uncovered, plus revisiting the highlights from the early 2000s
March 31, 2021

Welcome to Your Fantasy

You may know Chippendales as muscled, oiled-up 1980s beefcakes, but this fascinating podcast about the sensation of the super-successful male strip show reveals that there’s so much more to the story. The podcast goes behind the history of Chippendales, and how the brand’s cheesy reputation masks a story that includes corruption, murder, drugs, arson and the heady days of the American nightclub scene in the 1980s. It’s a compelling social history, as well as a much-needed, invigorating refresh of the true crime podcast format.

Twenty Twenty

We’ve reached the point where we can analyse the pop culture phenomena of the early 2000s with a bit of distance, and culture journalists Simran Hans and Tara Joshi do just that here. There’s only one series so far, but Twenty Twenty explores an eclectic range of cultural moments that range from the absurd to the profound: tune in for illuminating discussions of the impact and context of The Sims, Zadie Smith, Big Brother, Gilmore Girls and Craig David.

The Great Indoors

This peppy and fun design podcast with TV presenter and designer Sophie Robinson and journalist Kate Watson-Smyth is all about interiors. The duo discuss tips and tricks for home styling, such as how to bring character to a new build, how to live with interior features you can’t get rid of, and—fittingly, for our “WFH times”—how to assemble the perfect home office. There are also interviews with interior designers and discussions of interiors in the news—for example, a detailed analysis of official pictures of Princess Anne’s cluttered, chintzy living room.
