Rebecca Solnit is one of the key figures in “fourth wave feminism”. Her 2014 book Men Explain Things To Me, was a publishing sensation and helped to popularise the term “mansplaining” (when a man explains something to a woman in a condescending manner). 2014, Solnit has said, was “a year of feminist insurrection against male violence”. She lives in San Francisco and has also written about the “invasion” of the city by the spectacularly wealthy denizens of “Silicon Valley.”
