Long-term Prospect readers may remember CAR Hills’s Clapham Omnibus column, dispatches from Charles’s life in south London, which ran in the magazine in 2000-01. More recent readers may know him only from the Prisoner column, which began in May 2007 while Charles was in Belmarsh, awaiting trial for conspiracy to murder, and continued throughout his sentence.
