  • A school uniform by Paul Smith is just one of the projects to have come out of the pioneering scheme joinedupdesignforschools, where children work with top designers. Some of the designs are at the V&A, London, from 21st February.


  • Raimund Hoghe was inspired to start choreographing by Pier Pasolini's directive to "throw the body into the fight," and like his one-time collaborator, Pina Bausch, he is passionate about Stravinsky, so expect fireworks from his Sacre—The Rite of Spring, at Glasgow's Tramway, from 22nd February.


  • There is a rare chance to see Nick Cave perform without his Bad Seeds at The Sage, Gateshead on 27th February.


  • Philippa Vafadari takes to the trapeze to play her heroine in BandBazi's In Audrey Hepburn's Arms at the Windsor Arts Centre on 24th February, and touring.


  • The restored red and gold Hackney Empire, London, should be the perfect venue for English Touring Opera's production of Donizetti's Mary, Queen of Scots, from 11th March, then touring.


  • A lovers' tryst between doomed revolutionaries is the premise of Nirvana, by Bulgarian playwright Konstantin Iliev, directed by Jonathan Chadwick at London's Riverside Studios from 1st March.
