Hilary Mantel is a British novelist and author best known for her two Booker-Prize-winning novels of historical fiction, Wolf Hall (2009) and Bring Up the Bodies (2012). Much admired for her mastery of multiple genres, her output has taken in Tudor Britain, eighteenth-century France and present-day Saudi Arabia. Mantel is also a noted journalist and her criticism has appeared in the London Review of Books, the New York Review of Books and the Guardian. In 2013, comments made by Mantel caused controversy for their perceived hostility towards the Duchess of Cambridge, sparking a debate about the relationship between the media and the monarchy.
