The Return of News at Ten

There were only two surprises about the return of News at Ten (January 14): that there was nothing about ‘Maddy’ and Sir Trevor kept looking at the wrong camera. Otherwise, it reflected the new ITV perfectly.

It began with eight minutes about Diana, including an ‘exclusive’ interview with ‘the man Diana wanted to marry’ with ‘News at Ten Exclusive’ blasted over the screen. It left the viewer none the wiser (apparently his family enjoyed having tea with Diana), but who cares about hard news or information when there’s a tabloid agenda to chase? They then rushed through the only two…
