The world’s leading authority on internet harassment or “trolling”, Citron, a professor of law at the University of Maryland, last year published Hate Crimes in Cyberspace. She argues for stronger protections for individual privacy and the criminalisation of so-called “revenge porn”. Her opponents argue that attempts to regulate speech on the internet are unacceptable infringements of freedom of speech.
