Born in Cairo but living in the US, Eltahawy has campaigned against misogynist attitudes and practices in the Middle East, and prejudice against Muslims in the West. Criticised by some for her abrasive style, her forthcoming book Headscarves and Hymens: Why the Middle East Needs a Sexual Revolution is typically thought-provoking.
