An expert on mobile technology, social media and social robots, Sherry Turkle’s work documents how technology changes not only what we do, but who we are. Turkle is a professor of Social Studies of Science and Technology at MIT, and she is also the founder and current director of the MIT Initiative on Technology and Self. Her most recent book Alone Together: Why We Expect More from Technology and Less From Each Other (Basic, 2011) is the latest in a trilogy exploring how human values have evolved in the digital age. A former technology evangelist, she is now concerned that digital connectedness may be making individuals more isolated, rather than helping to unify society.
