The opinions section in this month’s issue opens with a piece on Iran by Menzies Campbell, the former Leader of the Liberal Democrats and MP for North East Fife. He sees the election of President Rouhani as highly significant. A moderate, Rouhani is “capable of understanding… [the] conflicting interests,” that exist in Iran he says. The conclusion drawn is that “it would be wise to be optimistic about these electoral results and irresponsible to dismiss the opportunity they represent.
