Hernando de Soto is a Peruvian economist. He is best known for works dealing with the informal economy and the importance of property rights, such as The Other Path: The Invisible Revolution in the Third World (1989). He is the president of the Institute for Liberty and Democracy, a Lima think tank, which he founded in 1979.
