My body is beyond exhaustion as I snap the gloves off and slip them back into the box, irritated by the smug line on the side. 50 single-use surgical gloves. These particular ones are on their last legs; they have been used perhaps eight or nine times today. I leave the sanctuary of the little store room, and it surprises me how little my ears are affected by the noises from the wards. I won’t describe them.
