Amazon’s auto-recommendation system—if you bought this, you might like this—works well, most of the time, both for customers and the company (Amazon says the system is responsible for 35 per cent of sales). But although we at Prospect pride ourselves on the breadth of our interests, this email, which popped into my inbox this morning, is perhaps a bit off the mark:
