University of Cambridge professor and TLS classics editor Mary Beard has a blog, A Don’s Life. In April, she wrote an interesting post on David Beckham’s collection of tattoos, a few of which are in Latin. His most recent addition is an English translation of the Latin quotation Oderint dum metuant—”Let them hate as long as they fear.” Keep a look out for it tonight, as England face Estonia in a key Euro 2008 qualifier.
