Richard Dawkins

Evolutionary biologist and author of The God Delusion

Richard Dawkins is a British evolutionary biologist, famous for his book The Selfish Gene and his advocacy for secularism. Dawkins founds his atheist activism in empirical reasoning, and writes of it as intimately related to his work in the biological sciences. “It is absolutely safe to say,” he has written in the New York Times, “that if you meet somebody who claims not to believe in evolution, that person is ignorant, stupid or insane (or wicked, but I’d rather not consider that).”

Articles by Richard Dawkins:

If I ruled the world: Human intelligence is undervalued these days. We must do away with rulebooks and start trusting our own judgement

The Descent of Edward Wilson: A new book on evolution by a great biologist makes a slew of mistakes

Race and creation: Humans, it seems, are predisposed to make sharp distinctions between in-group and out-group

Dawkins has lots of “followers” and I suppose if Kim Kardashian had been nominated she would have pushed Dawkins into second place.

In the scientific world he has been losing credibility for years, and it is now increasingly clear that the take he offers on evolution is excessively dogmatic and simplistic. A very good article in this week’s Nature singles him out by name and you can see more here.
