Esther Duflo is a French development economist, specialising in microeconomics: the analysis of individual economic participants. Her book, Poor Economics, co-written with Abhijit Banerjee, collected together 15 years of study and was the winner of the FT/Goldman Sachs book of the year award in 2011. A professor at MIT, she has won numerous academic awards and in early 2013, President Obama appointed her to the President’s Global Development Council.
