Overwhelmed by the choice during London's art extravaganza? Industry experts select their favourite shows

Victoria Pomery, the director of Turner Contemporary, Margate, since 2002, received an honorary Master of Arts from UCA Canterbury this summer. After spells at the Mead Gallery and Angel Row Gallery, she worked as the senior curator at Tate Liverpool where she was responsible for contemporary art shows and displays from the Tate collection until her appointment at Margate.

“Australia”, Royal Academy until 8th December

This show promises much, comprising more than 200 works and spanning an enormous historical period from 1800 to the present day. Australia is a colossal topic to deal with in one exhibition so I am hoping not to be disappointed, but it is a great opportunity to view major works that can usually only be seen on the other side of the world.

Mira Schendel, Tate Modern until 19th January

Schendel’s work is both poetic and beautiful. I first became aware of her work on a trip to Brazil so I am enormously excited about the opportunity to see her work in London.

“Lindsay Seers Entangled 2”, Matt’s Gallery until 1 December

This is a new version of the work that we commissioned and showed at Turner Contemporary in summer 2012. Screened in our loading bay, the piece worked brilliantly so I am sure the new iteration will be equally poignant and spellbinding.

Sarah Lucas, Whitechapel until 15th December

A much-awaited survey show that will be fascinating to see given that there have been a number of recent shows by her fellow YBA Tracey Emin. I’m particularly looking forward to seeing the new work.

“Daniel Silver: Dig”, Artangel, 24 Grafton Way, WC1 until 3rd November

I love the way that projects such as this tap into one’s curiosity. This “archaeological discovery” in this context sounds as though it is not to be missed.
